Softball Takes A Pair Of 5-2 Losses To Crowder College

Softball came out on the short end of a pair of 5-2 scores yesterday in their home doubleheader with Crowder College.  The losses move the team's overall record to 9-29 while their Region 16 mark sits at 5-13.  Their next action will be Saturday when they host State Fair CC.  This will also be sophomore recognition day for the team.

Game 1:

NCMC battled throughout but fell 5-2 to Crowder in the opener, with several Pirates turning in notable efforts at the plate and on the bases. Ireland Bloss and Katie Pierson each recorded hits, with Pierson driving in NCMC's lone RBI, while Alex Endicott added a hit, drew a walk, and was active on the basepaths with a stolen base. Cora Thompson also contributed with a hit and a walk, and Myla Laws worked a walk and scored one of the Pirates' two runs. In the circle, Emma Lisenbee went the distance, tossing all seven innings while striking out three. As a team, the Pirates showed patience at the plate with five walks and executed small ball with four sacrifices, but ultimately couldn't overcome Crowder's nine-hit offensive output.

Game 2:

The Pirates dropped another 5-2 decision to Crowder in the finale, but NCMC saw a bright spot in the third inning as Ireland Bloss delivered a two-run home run to account for all of team's offense. Alex Endicott also contributed at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored to help spark the rally. In the circle, Skylar Sunderland worked 5.2 innings with one strikeout before Ireland Bloss came on in relief and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Despite the Pirates being limited to just two hits in the game, the early swing from Bloss kept NCMC within striking distance.
