Track & Field Shows Well At The CMU Invite

The team traveled to Central Methodist University in Fayette for the CMU Invite, a competitive two-day meet held on April 2nd and 3rd. Competing against strong programs, the squad delivered an impressive weekend filled with personal bests, season bests, and standout performances across both track and field events.

 

On the track, the sprint group highlighted the meet with breakthrough performances. Jamari Ervin led the way in the 100m, clocking a new personal record of 12.40 seconds to place 10th overall. Not far behind, Cierra Stigger also set a new personal best in the 100m, crossing the line in 12.71 seconds, continuing her strong progression this season. Following her performance, the women's 4x100m relay showed great improvement as they set a new personal record of 49.57, featuring Ervin, Stigger, Kate Jones, and Adeline Dickerson.

 

In the 400m, the men's squad showed depth and determination. Nate Giffin turned in a season-best performance of 51.58 seconds, while Daimond Kangiela recorded a personal record of 53.74 seconds, marking a significant milestone in his development.

 

Distance standout Abby Jones made a strong impression in her debut appearances in both the 1500m and 800m. She demonstrated great potential and composure, finishing 10th in the 1500m with a time of 5:13.64 and adding a solid 2:38.47 performance in the 800m.

 

In the field events, the team continued to build momentum with exceptional results. Giffin added to his strong weekend by placing 2nd in the pole vault, while Genesis Bethea dominated the high jump, earning a first-place finish. Allise Perkins also delivered a standout performance, placing 5th in the high jump with a new season best clearance of 1.52 meters.

 

Overall, the CMU Invite proved to be a successful outing for the team, showcasing growth, resilience, and competitive spirit across all event groups. With multiple personal and season bests achieved, the team continues to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.
