Women’s Golf Competes at Statesmen Spring Classic, George Earns Top 20

The NCMC Women's Golf team traveled to Oskaloosa, IA on Wednesday to compete in the Spring Statesmen Shootout hosted by William Penn University. Perennial powerhouse Indian Hills Community College won the team portion of the event.

Coach Swann had these remarks at the conclusion of the event, "Thanks to Darin Fischer at William Penn for a well ran tournament. Really proud of the girls for showing some resilience in hurricane winds once again. Kennady is swinging the driver well and getting longer off the tee with each event she plays in. Courtney is also able to shape the ball both ways off the tee box which helped with the Edmundson Golf Course layout. Casey really played well too and collected two birdies on the day. From event to event the girls get offered a new type of green complex so they gave up a few shots around the greens but given the conditions I am happy with how they played and we will work on those areas before Simpson next week."

The Pirate Women battled the Edmunson Golf Course in 40-50MPH wind gusts and played well with Kennady George (T19th) earning a Top 20 after firing a round of 95 with nine-hole splits of 49-46. George collected three Pars on the day.

Courtney Crose and Casey Phillips both finished 28th and 29th place respectively yesterday. Crose also collected three Pars on the day shooting a 101 with splits of 50-51. Phillips shot an 18-hole round of 105 and collected birdies on the Par 4 first hole and the Par 3 third hole.

The Pirate Women's team will be in action next Monday when they travel to Indianola, IA to compete in the Simpson Storm Spring Classic. Shotgun start for the event will begin at 12:00 P.M.
