The NCMC Men's Golf team traveled to Columbia, MO on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Columbia College Spring Invitational held at Columbia Country Club.
The NCMC Men (A) team got off to solid start on Monday firing a team score of 304 which was 5th place in the 17-team tournament led by a 74 from Alvaro Alegria, 75 from Grant Leamer and a 76 from Jorge Gomez. Guillermo Gomez shot a 79 and Lucas Viertaler rounded out the first-round scoring with an 80.
The NCMC Men (B) team also got off to a great start on Monday posting a team of 316 led the Freshman duo of Dylan and Kaleb Groomer. Dylan fired a (+1) 72 while Kaleb shot an 18-hole round of 76. Lucas Schussler and Riley Gott each posted Monday rounds of 83 and 85.
The final round on Tuesday offered more wind for the Pirate Men but were able to stay consistent in the tournament field and finishing in the Top 5 in the team standings with another team tally of 304. Alvaro Alegria led the NCMC (A) team in scoring posting a final round score of 74 and notching his first Top 10 of the Spring (8th individually) for a 36-hole mark of 148. Jorge and Guillermo Gomez played consistently matching each other with final round scores of 75. Jorge Gomez earned a Top 20 (Solo 17th place) at the event with a 36-hole score of 151 while Guillermo finished T29th with a 154 after two days of action. Grant Leamer was right behind shooting a final round 80 for a two-day mark of 155. Lucas Viertaler shot a Tuesday score of 85 to get to his 36-hole tally of 165.
The NCMC (B) team also stayed consistent in the team leaderboard posting a final round score of 329 led on Tuesday by Kaleb Groomer who fired a round of 73 to earn himself a Top 10 (10th individually) with a 36-hole score of 149. Dylan Groomer shot a final round 80 but also notched a Top 20 in the 90-player field with a two-day score of 152. Lucas Schussler and Riley Gott posted twin final round scores of 88. Schussler finished with a 36-hole mark of 171 while Gott finished with a score of 173.
The NCMC Men's Golf team will be next in action for an 18-hole Qualifying match scheduled with SWCC in Maryville, MO on March 20th.
