Pirates baseball took a couple tough losses at Missouri S&T on a beautiful day in Rolla, MO this past Sunday. Final scores of the games were 16-0 and 12-2 which dropped NCMC's fall scrimmage record to 4-5-1. Up next will be a road matchup on Tuesday with Graceland University. First pitch is set for 1:30pm.
Offense was difficult to come by for the Pirates against the Miners. Over 14 total innings, NCMC could only manage to get 10 hits and didn't plate a run until the 5th inning of game two. In that frame, NCMC got things going with a Bailey Quint double. He came around to score after Laydon Fields laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, which the Miners threw errantly past the first baseman. Fields scored later in the inning on a Brett Cira single up the middle.
On the mound, starters Tanner Schmidt and Nathan Fine each took losses. The Miners scored on NCMC in all but two innings while piling up a total of 25 hits. Pirates pitching also walked 10 Missouri S&T batters plus hit another 7. Bright spots for the pitching staff came from Ramses Gutierrez who twirled a scoreless frame and Allan Martinez who didn't allow an earned run over 2 innings pitched.
