NCMC Pirate's baseball split their fall scrimmage season opening games on Sunday at the University of Central Missouri JUCO Jamboree. In the opener, the Pirates downed State Fair CC 4-3. In game two, Indian Hills CC got the best of the Pirates by the final score of 9-4. Next up will be a road matchup with the Kansas City Royals Scout Team on Wednesday, September 14th.
Having a nice day at the plate for the Pirates was sophomore Layne Rutherford. He knocked a pair of doubles and was walked once. Freshman Landon Wells went 2-5 with 3 RBIs plus scored a run.
On the mound, Evan Johnston earned the relief win against State Fair tossing 2 scoreless innings while striking out 4. Kyle Stratman got the save in the one run victory. Taking the loss against Indian Hills was sophomore Nathan Fine who surrendered 4 earned runs over 2 innings pitched.
