Toni Arrington: Women's Basketball Player 1984-86
Toni Arrington, a standout for Trenton Junior College Women's Basketball from 1984-86, earned her place in the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame through an exceptional combination of production, leadership, and competitive toughness. Arrington was an All-Region selection in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, consistently establishing herself as one of the premier players in the region. During the 1985–86 season, she elevated her performance to the national stage, finishing as the seventh-leading scorer in the country while averaging an impressive 24.2 points per game. Her legacy, however, extends beyond statistics. Former head coach and fellow NCMC Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Lafferty recalled Arrington's unmatched tenacity, including a memorable performance in which she battled through illness to lead TJC to a victory over nationally ranked Waldorf College. Lafferty described Arrington as a true leader and warrior—an athlete whose determination and resolve inspired teammates and defined the competitive standard of Trenton Junior College women's basketball.
Ja'Wan Davis: Men's Basketball Player 2009-11
Ja'Wan Davis was a dominant force for North Central Missouri College men's basketball from 2009–11, establishing himself as one of the premier players of his era. During the 2009–10 season, Davis earned Second Team NJCAA Division II All-American honors after averaging 21.3 points per game while shooting an efficient 54.3 percent from the field, showcasing his ability to score consistently at a high level. Over 42 career games at NCMC, he totaled 835 points, averaging 19.9 points per contest, and shot 52.2 percent overall from the floor. Davis also contributed across the stat sheet with 181 rebounds (4.3 per game), 95 assists (2.3 per game), and 83 steals (2.0 per game), combining scoring prowess with all-around impact. His production, efficiency, and national recognition solidified his legacy as one of the standout players in NCMC basketball history.
Diane Lowrey: Booster
Diane Lowrey has been a steadfast supporter of TJC/NCMC Athletics for more than four decades. Her involvement began in the early 1980s while covering college athletics for the Trenton Republican-Times, where the college served as her primary beat. Lowery later served as president of the TJC Booster Club and is a founding member of the NCMC Booster Club, where she currently serves as secretary. Throughout her tenure, she has organized numerous fundraising initiatives, including a shirt auction that helped fund the women's basketball team's first national tournament appearance following the program's reinstatement in 1998–99.
Beyond fundraising, Diane has provided meals for student-athletes, attended countless games, and offered support in any way needed to strengthen the athletic program. Her dedication extends to encouraging individual donor contributions, helping ensure that teams qualifying for national tournaments receive the resources they need. Diane's tireless commitment and passion for Pirate athletics have made her a beloved figure in the NCMC community, inspiring others to give back and support student-athletes. She has helped create an environment where coaches, players, and fans alike can thrive, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication, generosity, and Pirate pride.
Steve Richman: Men's Basketball Coach 2000-16, Softball Coach 2016-21, Athletic Director 2011-21
Steve Richman's more than two decades at North Central Missouri College represent one of the most impactful and versatile tenures in the history of Pirate Athletics. Richman joined NCMC in 2000 as head men's basketball coach, leading the program through the 2015–16 season while building a culture centered on competitiveness, discipline, and student-athlete development. In 2011, he assumed the role of Athletic Director, guiding all Pirate programs for a decade and overseeing a period of growth marked by strengthened infrastructure, expanded opportunities, and a continued emphasis on academic and personal success. Richman further demonstrated his adaptability and commitment to NCMC by serving as head softball coach from 2016–21, where he helped elevate the program's competitive standing within Region 16. The spring of 2021 season was a banner year where the team finished with a mark of 41-13 plus cracked the NJCAA national rankings. Retiring in 2021, Richman left behind a lasting legacy as a coach, administrator, and mentor whose leadership positively influenced countless student-athletes and helped shape the modern era of NCMC Athletics, earning him induction into the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame.
Kortlyn Rounkles: Women's Basketball Player 2019-21
Kortlynn Rounkles was one of the most productive and versatile guards in North Central Missouri College women's basketball history, earning Third Team NJCAA Division II All-American honors during the 2019–20 season. That year, she emerged as a national-level standout by averaging 17.8 points per game and totaling 515 points in 29 games while shooting 49.0 percent from two-point range, along with 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per contest. She followed with another strong campaign in the COVID-19 shortened 2020–21 season, averaging 10.8 points per game, shooting 50.0 percent from two-point range and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line, while adding 3.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Over her NCMC career, Rounkles played in 49 games, scored 730 points (14.9 ppg), and accumulated 210 rebounds, 205 assists, and 108 steals, cementing her legacy as one of the program's most complete performers and a deserving inductee into the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame.
2020-21 Men's Basketball Team
The 2020-21 North Central Missouri College men's basketball team earned its place in the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame with a standout season that ranks among the best in program history. Under the leadership of head coach Jeremy Esry, the Pirates compiled an 18-7 overall record, captured the Region 16 Championship, and went on to win the Central B District title to secure a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, IL. This was the program's third straight trip, where they competed on the national stage against the top programs in the country. The team's success was complemented by significant individual recognition, led by Jeramy Shaw, who was named a Second Team NJCAA Division II All-American while also earning First Team All-Region honors alongside teammate Atavian Butler. Kolten Griffin added to the accolades with a Second Team All-Region selection. The combination of team achievement, postseason success, and national and regional honors firmly establishes the 2020-21 Pirates as one of the premier teams in NCMC men's basketball history.
