The NCMC Men's and Women's Golf teams traveled to Creston, IA, on Friday to open their fall tournament schedules at the Southwestern Community College "War at the Moor."
The NCMC (A) Team fired a score of 295 to finish in 3rd place out of 10 teams at the event. The Pirates were led by Jorge Gomez (T-3rd), who posted his first under-par collegiate round with a 71, and Landon Biermann (T-10th), who shot a round of 73. The team score of 295 is the second-best round in program history.
The NCMC (B) Team was also in action, along with two players competing as individuals. The (B) Team recorded a score of 313, led by Dylan Groomer (T-10th) with a 73 and Lucas Schussler (T-17th) with a 75. Competing as individuals, Zander Coffman and Elijah Grote posted rounds of 80 and 92, respectively.
Coach Nate Swann had these remarks following the event:
"Congrats to the men's squad on a great start to the fall season. We have a deep team this year, so if everybody gets hot at the right time, they will put up a low team score. We saw some glimpses of that today with 23 birdies and 3 eagles collectively as a team. I was proud of everyone 1–12 today, but especially the freshmen having success on a course they had never seen before."
The NCMC Women's Golf team also competed, finishing in 3rd place with a team score of 386. Presley Rardon led the Pirates on Friday with a 90, finishing 7th overall and earning her first collegiate Top 10. Courtney Crose finished 9th after posting a round of 92. Kennady George and Casey Phillips were also in action for NCMC, recording rounds of 101 and 103, respectively.
"Overall, I was pleased with how the girls played on a brand-new golf course," said Coach Swann. "This week we are going to clean up a few things from 75 yards and in, but I saw some good shots from the girls and they will continue to improve throughout the semester."
The NCMC Men's and Women's Golf teams will return to action on September 8–9, competing in the Missouri Valley Fall Invitational at Indian Foothills Golf Course. Shotgun starts for the event are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. each day.
