NCMC Men’s Golf Battles Wind At Mozingo, Claim Runner-Up At Graceland Spring Invite

The NCMC Men's Golf team traveled to Maryville, MO over the weekend to compete in the Graceland University Spring Invitational. 

 

The Pirate Men had another great showing in cold temperatures and 40MPH wind gusts as they finished in 2nd place in the ten-team tournament field after firing team scores of 319-308 for a 36-hole total of 627. The Pirates were only ten shots away from team champion Southwestern Community College and earned 2nd place winning the team scorecard playoff with Southwestern (KS) College. NCMC had two golfers in the Top 10 and five golfers finishing inside the Top 25 in the 61-player tournament field. The team at Graceland was also ranked 3rd in Par 3 scoring (3.63), 1st in Par 4 scoring (4.39) and T4th in Par 5 scoring (5.17).

 

Grant Leamer led the Men in Round One with a 79 and collecting two birdies. The Pirates got three matching rounds of 80 on Friday by Dylan Groomer, Kaleb Groomer and Alvaro Alegria. Jorge Gomez shot an 81 while Lucas Schussler shot an 87. 

 

The Pirates made a good move on the leaderboard during the final round on Saturday highlighted by a (-1) 71 from Alvaro Alegria including five birdies. Alegria's 36-hole total of 151 earned him a 3rd place finish and earning All-Tournament team recognition sitting one stroke back from a playoff with the individual champion from SWCC. Kaleb Groomer notched a Top 10 finishing in 7th place after firing a round of 76 for a 36-hole total of 156. Dylan Groomer finished in 16th place individually, shot a final round 79 to get to his two-day mark of 159. Grant Leamer shot a final round of 82 for his 36-hole total of 162 and earned a Top 20 finishing in 18th place. Jorge Gomez shot an 83 and finished in 23rd place for the event for his 36-hole score of 163. Lucas Schussler collected three birdies in the final round with nine splits of 42-44 for a final round score of 86 and 36-hole total 173.

 

The NCMC Men's Golf team will be in action next Monday (4/6/26) when they travel to West Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Glen Oaks Collegiate. Tee times begin at 10:00 A.M.
