NCMC baseball won 3 out of 4 road matchups with East Central College over the weekend to improve to 8-4 in Region 16 play. On Tuesday, they downed Kansas City Kansas CC 15-14 in a high scoring affair at Burleigh Grimes Field. The team now sits at 18-19 overall with a road doubleheader Thursday against Metropolitan CC next on the schedule.
Earning wins against East Central on the mound were starters Max Wagers, Koby Wagers and reliever Gabriel DeFily. Luis Leon picked up a loss in his start, allowing 7 earned runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Offensively, freshman JP Gonzalez had a banner performance against East Central. He went 10-15 with a home run, 4 runs scored and 5 RBIs. Also having a good weekend at the plate was Alejandro Somaza. He went 4-11 while also posting 4 runs scored and 5 RBI, including a homer.
In the mid-week victory over KCKCC, the Pirates bats really came alive. They knocked 10 hits including home runs from Leonel Dominguez, Koby Wagers, Eduardo Chourio and Ethan Shupe. Shupe's blast was the biggest of the game, a grand slam in the 8th inning to put the Pirates back on top in a back and forth affair. NCMC walked off the win on a wild pitch from KCKCC which scored Chourio from third.
