Three North Central Missouri College spring sports athletes have received All-Region honors for their efforts this past season. In baseball, freshman Connor Quick from Fenton, MO received 1st Team honors. Dual sport sophomore athlete McKinley Hurley from Trenton, MO, also a 1st Team All-Region selection in women's basketball, received the same distinction in softball. Men's golf too had one athlete, Scottish freshman Jamie Connelly, earn 1st Team honors.
Connor Quick was an integral part of the 2017 Pirate's baseball squad that finished 6th in the Region 16 standings. His batting average, .458, was good for 4th nationally among NJCAA Division I players. "Connor had an outstanding season! I know I speak for the entire team and coaching staff when I say the award was well-deserved. He is a great teammate and student; and a pure hitter who has a bright future. I am very impressed with his consistency and approach. I am excited for our program, as I look forward to seeing him fill a leadership role for next year's club," commented Coach Donnie Hillerman.
McKinley Hurley was the sparkplug at the top of the Lady Pirate's softball lineup, batting leadoff and playing shortstop. She hit .450 for the year plus stole 54 bases, good for 5th nationally at the Division I level. "I'm extremely proud of her accomplishments. She is very deserving and worked hard for our team the whole year. Earning All-Region is very difficult, and she has really set the tone for our school and future Pirate athletes," remarked Coach Steve Richman.
In men's golf's first season, freshman Jamie Connelly led the way all spring season for the program. He had a scoring average of 81.36 for the year. "To have Jamie earn All-Region status during our first year as a competitive program is a nice achievement. Keep in mind, he only played during the spring season whereas most of the competition saw action in the fall as well. As long as he's able to keep his goals and priorities in line, I think this is going to be one of many accolades he sees as a NCMC student-athlete," stated Coach Craig Sager. Connelly earned the All-Region distinction from placing 4th among Region 16 players in the combined Region 16 & 24 tournament.
Congratulations to each athlete for their individual honors plus to their teams for excellent seasons.
