Freshman athlete Cody Glenn, from Lawson, MO, will compete on the Pirate’s basketball and golf teams for the upcoming season. Being a multi-sport athlete is nothing new for Cody. At Lawson High School, he played football, basketball, baseball and golf throughout his prep career. “One difficulty of playing multiple sports is finding time for academics and family,” remarked Glenn. His 3.7 high school GPA shows he was able to keep that balance. “I do think that playing multiple sports helps with mental toughness and keeps you physically fit. I know I was always physically ready for basketball season after playing football,” Glenn added.
Cody plans to earn his Associate of Arts-Transfer degree while at NCMC and major in Physical Education at the 4-year level. With that educational track, his plan is to coach either football or basketball. He is undecided as to whether he would like to coach at the high school or collegiate level.
In playing basketball and golf for the Pirates, Cody already has some goals in mind. “For basketball, I want to be a team player and do whatever is necessary to hang a banner in the Ketcham Community Center. For golf, I’d like to make the top 5 travel roster and have fun with the guys,” stated Glenn.
While Cody has spent the majority of his time working out with the basketball squad so far, he did get to make the trip with the golf team for their top 5 qualifier at Sycamore Ridge Golf Club in Spring Hill, KS. At the outing, Glenn finished in a 2-way tie for 2nd spot. “I felt that I played pretty well but there is always room for improvement,” noted Glenn.
Cody is already enjoying his time on campus and likes what the coaching staffs have to offer. “Coach Esry is a fun guy, is upbeat, but isn’t afraid to get on you to help you improve. Coach Sager is more laid back but is driven to win as well.”
